Fibreglass, or GRP, is applied wet and cures into a single continuous sheet across the whole roof including the upstands and trims. Because there are no laps, welds or seams, there is nothing for water to work its way into over time. It suits complex shapes particularly well, and takes foot traffic better than most flat roof systems.

Choosing a system
Fibreglass, Felt Or Rubber?
Fibreglass suits roofs with complex detailing or that will be walked on. Felt is a cost-effective, well-proven choice for straightforward garage and extension roofs. Rubber membrane is quick to install and very forgiving on simple rectangular roofs. There is no single best answer — it depends on the shape, the budget and how the roof will be used, and we will talk you through the trade-offs rather than pushing one system.

How A GRP Roof Goes On
Fibreglass depends almost entirely on preparation and on being laid in the right conditions, so we do not rush either.

Survey & Quote
We check the existing deck and structure, confirm GRP is the right system for the roof, and quote in writing.

Strip & Re-deck
The old covering comes off and the deck is inspected. GRP needs a sound, dry board, so we replace anything soft.

Lay & Laminate
Trims are set, then the matting and resin are laid and consolidated across the whole roof as one continuous piece.

Topcoat & Finish
A pigmented topcoat is applied for the finished surface, then we check falls and outlets and clear the site.

How long does a fibreglass roof last?
GRP is a long-life flat roof system when it is laid on a sound deck in suitable conditions. Most failures come from poor preparation or being applied in the wet or cold rather than from the material itself.
Can fibreglass be laid over my existing flat roof?
Not usually. GRP needs to bond to a clean, dry, sound deck, so the old covering normally comes off first and any damaged boards are replaced.
Can you walk on a fibreglass roof?
Yes, once fully cured it takes foot traffic well, which is why it is often chosen for balconies and roofs needing regular access.
Can it be laid in any weather?
No. Fibreglass needs dry conditions and a workable temperature to cure properly, so we plan installations around the forecast rather than pressing on regardless.
Can a fibreglass roof be repaired?
Yes. Because it is a resin system, damaged areas can be cut back and re-laminated so the repair bonds into the existing covering.
