EPDM is at its best on simple, regular flat roofs — garages, single-storey extensions and outbuildings. On roofs with lots of upstands, corners and changes of level, a liquid or fibreglass system that forms in place often details more neatly. We will look at the shape of your roof and tell you which system we would use and why.

How A Rubber Roof Goes On
The membrane is only as good as what sits under it, so most of the work happens before the rubber comes out of its roll.

Survey & Quote
We check the deck, the falls and the outlets, confirm EPDM suits the roof and give you a written quote.

Strip & Prepare
The old covering comes off and the deck is repaired or replaced where it has softened, then cleaned and dried.

Bond The Membrane
The sheet is laid out, relaxed and bonded down, then dressed into the upstands and around any outlets.

Trims & Finish
Edge trims and outlet detailing are completed, the roof is checked for falls and the site is cleared.

How long does a rubber roof last?
EPDM is a long-life flat roofing material that stays flexible rather than becoming brittle. As with any flat roof, service life depends on the deck beneath it and on keeping outlets clear.
Is rubber better than felt?
It depends on the roof. Rubber has fewer joints and goes on quickly; felt is well proven and cost-effective. We will recommend based on the shape and use of your roof rather than a blanket preference.
Can a rubber roof be repaired?
Yes. Punctures and damaged areas can be patched with compatible materials that bond into the existing membrane.
Can it go over the existing roof?
Only if the deck below is completely sound and dry. In most cases we strip back so we can see and repair what we are covering.
Do flat roofs require maintenance?
Very little, but they benefit from having outlets and gutters kept clear and from a check after severe weather.
